A niche series with an enormous fandom. Rick and Morty is one of the biggest series of all time. But, not so commonly, it's not particularly a family show. It's definitely not for all audiences due to its dark humor and elevated topics that are not appropriate to be nor understand nor are a good example for children. This is what makes the show's popularity not as common. It's definitely not a show directed to everyone. Its topics can be uncomfortable and disliked by most people, but it found a niche group that was waiting for an animated series that was directed for adults. When someone asks me what this show is about, I never know where to even start. So my answer is always: imagine if you had a show that combined Back to the Future, particularly the characters of Doc and Marty, with the humor of The Simpsons and Futurama but darker, and the Community nonsense. That, according to me, is what this show is about. In reality, this show is so much more than a mixture of other shows. It's actually the beginning of a whole new genre of series. Even though it did exist before, it wasn't as popular until Rick and Morty's appearance. This genre, which I will call adult animated shows that do jokes that sometimes go extremely far, and most people would deem unwatchable due to their heavy content, but still has a very strong fanbase that loves the show. In this, we could consider a lot of different shows, such as Big Mouth and Inside Job. I would even go as far as saying that this last one is very similar due to also having the whole storyline with science and being a scientist, but also playing with the imaginable world, as they have the possibility of playing with it more than other shows thanks to their animated format. Overall, I really think that this show is great, but what it has of awesomeness, it also has of niche. Even though I love it, I would not recommend it to everyone. It's made for a particular group of people that actually enjoy and laugh at the kind of jokes they do and the topics they treat. I always remember when my mom saw a clip of it and just said, "What an awful drawing". And I get her. It's not flowers and color. It's not for everyone, but the people who enjoy it love it.
