They are here to amuse and distract us, plain and simple, and it is very likely that they have been succeeding in fulfilling that purpose for a very long time now. That is no mean feat, and the greatest thing is that all we have to do to show our appreciation is to keep on scrolling and consuming. We never know what topics they may broach next, and what angle they will come from. Even though we have been taught by memes to expect the unexpected, the surprise is still what makes us continue to want to engage with them.
