Who didn't have an obsession with Greek mythology while growing up?Most of us certainly did! Us nerdy kids were completely in love with this ancient world at some point in our childhood or adolescence, especially if we read Percy Jackson or saw Disney's Hercules or something like that. It sparked our curiosity about the Greek world and its endless stream of fascinating tales with complicated characters. We read books, looked up information online, and made ourselves experts on the Greek pantheon. We picked our favorite myth and made that half of our personality. For some, it was the story of Theseus and the Minotaur. For others, it was Eros and Psyche, one of the very few myths that are actually romantic and have a happy ending. There's also a very popular and controversial one: Hades and Persephone. Whether she was taken or stayed willingly, there's still an ongoing debate, and it depends on the version you choose to read. Everyone has an opinion, but for us, no matter what the definitive answer is, Persephone will always be our girl. We love a female protagonist with an interesting duality. Girls have layers; who says we can't be goddesses of spring and also queens of the Underworld? Looks like the popular taste for Greek mythology is having a comeback lately. With Nolan's version of The Odyssey, people seem to be getting more invested in doing their research on the original text and other mythological stories. Just to be clear, we're not here to talk about all the anachronisms in Nolan's work, or turn this into a paper on historical accuracy or Homeric writing. We'll leave that to historians and literature majors, so they can do the proper research and then educate us on all the nuances, which, by the way, are really interesting. No, we came here to laugh about relatable stuff, and that's precisely what we're going to do!Just because it's a serious matter to research doesn't mean we don't get to play a bit with what we know and make our own inside jokes that only other mythology nerds will understand.
