When was the last time you took your tent and sleeping bag and spent a weekend in the middle of the forest?It probably has been long enough. Life has been so busy lately that we don't have much time left to spend outdoors, feeling the fresh air, looking at the sky full of stars, and relaxing while enjoying nature. It's a wonderful plan, but you need time and energy to do it. When I was younger, my family and I went camping all the time. We had our tents, our sleeping bags, our garden chairs, and our days smelled of pine trees. We cooked under the stars, built fires, enjoyed the peace and quiet, and recharged our batteries, preparing for the moment we had to come back to the real world. Mom and Dad coming back to work, us back to school. There were both ups and downs when it came to camping, but we all remember those days with love. The ups were obvious: my brother and I got to feel the sun on our faces, play outside, walk among the trees, and mostly, just stop staring at a screen all day! The downs were the logistics-type of inconvenient. We always traveled by car, so fitting everything we needed in a single vehicle was quite the puzzle for my dad to solve. He always did in the end, but boy, was it frustrating. Some people don't enjoy camping because of the bugs, the dirt, and the fact that you are almost completely disconnected from the outside world. To those people, I say: that's the whole point of camping: to get away from everything artificial and reconnect with nature and ourselves. We like to hear our inner thoughts now and then, and not get ourselves lost in the middle of the city chaos. The technology detox is something we all need desperately. And yes, the bugs can be a bother, but that's what bug spray is for! The dirt is inevitable; we just have to embrace it as part of the experience and then take a nice swim in the lake to get it off of us.
