When did we start getting obsessed with cleaning up everything? Apparently, that's a software update that hits after your 20s. Those teenage days of not caring if everything is tossed around, if our clothes are on the floor, and if the dishwasher is full are now long gone. Our weekends used to look like going out with friends and staying up past midnight. Now, we do our laundry, sweep the floor, and go to bed by nine. We can't help it; we're getting older, and our energy and priorities are changing. We get excited over trying new cleaning products, and we have fun when using the vacuum cleaner. Laundry days also become extremely satisfying. The pile of clothes goes into the washer and dryer, and now the dirty clothes' basket is empty, freeing us from the visual noise and ready to be filled again. Of course, it can be a pain in the neck if you don't live alone. Besides having to wash an abnormal amount of clothes and dishes, having everybody in your family coming in and acting as if you hadn't spent your last six hours taking care of everyone's mess can be a little annoying. Aside from the inconvenient relatives, we could mention the joy that comes from getting rid of everything useless that is taking up unnecessary space. The DVD player from the nineties? Gone; we have Netflix now. Old high school textbooks? They'll be useful for someone else. That pair of low-rise jeans you haven't used since Britney Spears' first album came out? Throw them away. We make space to put away the things that we actually use and need, and that otherwise are lying around with no fixed spot and nowhere to be when they are not being used. Our taste for cleanliness and order might be a little annoying for the rest of the people living with us, but they sure are grateful for it afterwards.
