The Hawk That Never Flinched

Surrounded by furious seagulls dive-bombing from every direction, this Harris’s hawk appears to stay remarkably calm. Instead of fleeing in panic, it keeps its focus on the birds swarming around it. This behavior is known as mobbing, when smaller birds harass a perceived predator to drive it away. By staying alert and tracking the attackers, the hawk may avoid giving the flock an easy opening while the seagulls eventually move on. Disclaimer: This is an educational wildlife story.
