Since I've never been a manager, I really don't know what's inside their heads or how they actually perceive work and office life. It's funny because becoming a manager comes with starting to use the typical phrases every boss has ever said… it seems like when you're about to become one, they send you a manual with those phrases and how to act!Although some people can be good managers and maybe not so good, they are all pretty much the same: people who have more work than you and still want to be home by 5 PM and enjoy the rest of their day without feeling worn out. But the problem - and the difference they have with employees - is that they have far more responsibility, and that can be tiring.I think having a good boss can really shape the experience you have at work. Having a manager who is understanding and patient makes a difference in the bond you end up making with the company… it can even make you want to stay at that workplace for a longer time! On the other hand, if your manager is not nice and pretends that you work only for them, and also lives to work, then your experience can be very awful. This actually happened to me years back: I had a manager who was very demanding about the way he wanted the office to look for the walk-in clients. He was aggressive and never really put himself in our shoes… because you not only had to comply with this mood and behaviour, but also with that stressful job… He had a good thing, though: he was a good listener. We had several meetings with senior leadership and discussed this, and somehow he managed to hold back his bad responses and improve… a little bit. But hey, at least he heard us!
