There is something very funny about being told that we do not really own our games anymore, then seeing the same company launch a LEGO version of its console. Ownership is complicated when it involves a game you paid for, but very important when it comes to 1,200 tiny plastic pieces you can lose under the couchIn less than a month, they managed to launch two consoles with no games. One is a digital box that can revoke your access to something you bought because a licensing deal expired somewhere in a boardroom. The other is a little brick console that cannot play anything because it is made of LEGO, which is at least honest about what it is doing.And listen, I get it. Companies like money. I, too, enjoy money. The issue is that they clearly understand the appeal of having a physical thing. You can hold it, display it, trade it, lend it to a friend, and find it years later in a closet while wondering why you ever thought frosted tips were a reasonable decision.
