‘I guess you guys aren’t ready for that yet, but your kids are gonna love it’: The verdict is in on TikTok about The Strokes' new album
'Fantano, word for word'The internet is definitely divided on this topic, and I landed on the positive side of TikTok. I have to say I was disappointed when I heard the first two singles; I couldn't stop imagining the songs without the autotune and thinking they would've been much better. The periodic milliseconds when the robotic voice went off-key weren't cutting it for me, but when I listened to the entire album, everything changed. The fact that it is a Strokes release might have tugged at my heartstrings and convinced my ear that the album was worth listening to in the first place, but it ended up working for me. I love it when records make me feel like an adolescent again. Problematic? Sure. Am I going to do something about it? Not at all. Who are you to police my fantasies? There is no harm in day-dreaming about wearing Converse and having long, messy hair. Let's face it, being a Millennial is so back. Charli XCX also released a 'rock-and-rollish' album full of synthesizers, grungy guitars, and disenchanted lyrics. The internet's nostalgia doesn't revolve around the 00s anymore; now the 10s are back, and it's our time to shine. Can Julian Casablancas make being over 40 cool somehow? I'm depending on him for this massive cultural shift I expect to happen. I've been thinking about it for so long; mainstream musicians used to have longer careers and remain cool for longer. In the last few decades, we've celebrated precocity too much, and careers seemed to peak at 22 and be over by 29. I'm living for other (older) perspectives to join the conversation. Anyways, this is my album recommendation to feel 'cool again':
