‘Dinner is served’: 22 Restaurant memes for chefs and waiters going into their dinner shifts
Who doesn't love to eat out now and then? It certainly releases us from having to cook…Going out to eat is a fun and relaxing experience for us customers. We show up to the chosen restaurant, we sit, we order, and after a few minutes, voila! Our dinner suddenly appears in front of us. It's the closest thing we have to magic in this world. Except it's not really magic. It's a bunch of people working overtime to get us our food warm and perfect. For all of us who have never worked at a restaurant before, it's hard to imagine what happens behind the scenes in the kitchen. The closest we have to an explanation is the Ratatouille movie, and Collette walking around the kitchen explaining everything to Linguini, and yelling "You CANNOT be MOMMY" when he's too slow to cook. I firmly believe that is an accurate representation of the dynamics between chefs and their sous chefs. Another great representation is the movie No Reservations, with Catherine Zeta Jones as the lead chef. If you haven't seen it, I don't know what you are waiting for. Other than the sentimentality and the love story, it's lovely to see a chef so passionate and dedicated to her job. Those are two of my favourites, but there are hundreds of other TV shows and movies with restaurant staff as the leads. Still, everything is fiction. Unless we have a friend or family member who has actually worked at a restaurant, we'll never exactly know what it feels like to prepare a hundred different food orders on a Friday night, making sure not to take too long, and timing everything so it gets to the table in a state of perfection. Waiters and chefs do an amazing job handling our demands and fulfilling the food cravings we can't prepare at home.
